2027 Tax Brackets Are Coming Soon. Here's What Early Projections Show

The IRS usually announces next year's tax brackets in the fall. Analysts expect a bigger inflation bump than last year.

2027 Tax Brackets Are Coming Soon. Here's What Early Projections Show

Key takeaways

  • The IRS hadn't released official 2027 brackets as of Oct. 22.
  • Bloomberg Tax projects about a 3.2% inflation adjustment, larger than last year's.
  • The projected standard deduction for married couples is $33,200, up from $32,200.

Every fall, the IRS adjusts dozens of tax figures for inflation, including income tax brackets and the standard deduction. The 2027 figures, which will apply to returns filed in early 2028, haven’t been released yet, but early projections are out.

What projections show

Bloomberg Tax projects a roughly 3.2% inflation adjustment for 2027, larger than the 2.7% adjustment for 2026, reflecting higher inflation this year. Wolters Kluwer also projects bigger increases than last year.

The projected 2027 standard deduction for married couples filing jointly is $33,200, up from $32,200 in 2026. The seven tax rates themselves, from 10% to 37%, won’t change; only the income levels for each bracket will rise.

What it means for you

Because brackets and the standard deduction rise with inflation, the same income would owe slightly less tax in 2027. If your raise only keeps pace with inflation, your tax bill will rise roughly in proportion.

Already final for 2027

Some 2027 numbers are already set. Health savings account limits rise to $4,500 for self-only coverage and $9,000 for family coverage.

When will the IRS announce?

The IRS typically publishes the next year’s figures in October or November. Last year, it released 2026 numbers on Oct. 9, 2025. Analysts have noted that missing inflation data from 2025 could make the official figures differ from projections.

Remember: you’ll file 2026 first

Your next tax return, due in April 2027, uses the 2026 brackets. That return is also where you’ll claim the new deductions for tips, overtime, car loan interest and seniors if you qualify.

We’ll update our tax coverage when the IRS releases official 2027 numbers.
